EC seeks around Tk6,000cr for upcoming national election, local govt polls

The Election Commission (EC) has sought a total of Tk5,922 crore allocation for conducting the upcoming national election and local government elections.
Of the total amount, the commission sought Tk2,794.55 crore for the national election while the rest of the budget for all the local government elections.
Confirming the matter today (12 February), EC Additional Secretary KM Ali Newaz said the commission has sent a proposal to the government seeking the allocation in the 2025-26 fiscal year.

"Although we have placed the demand, the amount needed may come down. Everything will depend on the situation during the elections. The exact amount of possible expenditure will be known only after the meeting of the EC Secretariat," Newaz said.
Beside proposing the budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year, the EC has made a proposal of projected budgets for 2026-27 and 2027-28 fiscal years.
The commission sought around Tk2,829.46 crore for 2026-27 fiscal year and Tk724.3 crore for 2027-28.
