IGP urges people not to gather in parks, tourist spots during Eid

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed has urged people not to gather in parks and tourist spots to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha in order to contain the spread of Covid-19.
He also gave instructions to all units of police to beef up security measures and surveillance to make people's Eid celebrations uninterrupted alongside protecting themselves from Covid-19 infections.
The IGP came up with the instructions in a Zoom meeting with the chiefs of all the police units and high officials of the police headquarters on Wednesday (July 15), reads a press release.
Additionally, the police chief called upon people to celebrate Eid in compliance with the health guidelines.
He told the law enforcers that disinfection booths, if possible, can be set up at the entrances to the cattle markets in coordination with the leaseholders.
The IGP directed the lawmen to increase their vigilance to stop circulation of counterfeit notes in the cattle markets.
He ordered them to take measures to ensure safe travel of homebound people ahead of Eid, and check buses, ferries and launches to prevent transportation of extra passengers.
The movement of unfit vehicles on roads and highways should be stopped to prevent fatal accidents, he said.
He also issued a stern warning that any kind of extortion and anarchy would not be tolerated over the sale of rawhide of sacrificial animals.
The police chief directed the law enforcers to take necessary steps to prevent smuggling of cattle hides.
The IGP also directed police officials to step up intelligence surveillance and monitoring so that no vested quarter could spread any kind of rumour through social media during Eid.
Also, the law enforcers were directed to beef up surveillance of the activities of militants and terrorist groups, and to collect intelligence info to fight militancy and terrorism in the country.
The IGP directed the heads of the police units to ensure the security of Eid congregations in important mosques.
