Shahed claims himself Covid-19 positive in court
"My father died of Covid-19 and I have been suffering from the virus infection for the last one and a half months"
Regent Group Chairman Md Shahed claimed that he is Covid-19 positive while he was produced before the court today over his alleged involvement in a recent Covid-19 testing scam and other irregularities.
Tearful Shahed said, "My father died of Covid-19 and I have been suffering from the virus infection for the last one and a half months."
He also claimed that his organisation was the first to have initiated Covid-19 treatment in the country at a private level, yet the government has sealed all of his ventures.
According to Shahed, he deposited the amount required for license renewal to Sonali Bank following the directives provided by the health ministry at the beginning of March 2020.
However, Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim granted a 10-day remand of Shahed and Masud Parvez, managing director of Regent Group, over allegations of fake Covid-19 test and embezzlement.
Earlier on July 15, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Shahed from Debhata upazila in Satkhira.
Sources in the elite force said Shahed has at least 55 cases against him in different police stations across the country.
On July 6, RAB raided the Uttara and Mirpur branches of the Regent Hospital on complaints of fake Covid-19 test.
