GPH Ispat donates 1,000 oxygen cylinders

Steel manufacturing company GPH Ispat has donated 1,000 oxygen cylinders to solve the oxygen crisis of government hospitals in Chattogram.

The cylinders were handed over to Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ilyas Hossain at a meeting at Chittagong Circuit House on Monday afternoon.

In the first phase, the deputy commissioner has handed over 500 cylinders to the representatives of Chittagong General Hospital, Chittagong Maternal and Child Hospital, Chittagong Field Hospital and health complexes of 14 upazilas of Chattogram.

Another 500 cylinders will be provided in the next phase.

GPH Ispat authorities will refill these cylinders free of cost when the gas runs out. The company has launched a hotline number for this.

While distributing the cylinders, Mohammad Ilyas Hossain said, "This initiative of GPH Ispat is certainly commendable. One thousand cylinders is not a few. More importantly, the cylinders will be refilled after use."

Mohammad Almas Shimul, additional managing director of GPH Ispat, said, "We hope this initiative to provide oxygen will help to save the lives of dying patients. Our modern plant has the largest air separation unit in the country. Once it goes into full operation in the next 15 days, we will be able to provide more oxygen."

In his welcome speech, Kamrul Islam FCA, executive director (F and BD) of GPH Ispat, praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for tackling the business and Covid-19, which has inspired GPH Group chairman to provide oxygen.

Chattogram Civil Surgeon Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said an industrial organisation has come forward to help patients. We expect the big industry groups to come forward enthusiastically.
