The Bangladesh embassy in Greece and the local administration there have taken initiatives to improve the living standards of the Bangladeshi workers living in the European country.
Md Jasim Uddin, ambassador of Bangladesh to Greece, on July 23 held a meeting with Manolada Mayor Yanis Lentus at the municipality office in Varda city in this regard, says a press release.
The Bangladesh ambassador requested the mayor to assist the undocumented Bangladeshis living in Greece in obtaining legal documents from the Greek government.
At the request of Jasim, Yanis gave assurance to eliminate administrative complications so that the Bangladeshi workers living legally in Greece can get agricultural land on lease.
The mayor also promised to provide land to Bangladeshi expatriate workers for housing.
At the meeting, it was discussed that the Bangladesh embassy and the municipality can jointly work to increase people-to-people contacts, and strengthen friendships by organising joint sports and cultural events between the citizens of the two countries.
