Indian businessmen want port holiday before Eid, Bangladeshis want it after Eid
The Clearing and Forwarding (C&F) Agents Association at Bhomra land Port in Satkhira sent a letter to the Assistant Commissioner of the port on Saturday, on the occassion of Eid-ul-Azha, to stop all import and export activities at the port for six days. However, whether the holiday dates will be before Eid or after Eid has not been finalised yet.
The letter, signed by Mostafizur Rahman Nasim, general secretary of the association, said the C&F Agents Association had unanimously decided to suspend all activities from July 30 to August 4 on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha. C&F activities will continue as usual from August 5.
However, Enam Hossain, revenue officer at Bhomra port, said, "Traders from the Ghojadanga C&F Agents Association of India wanted the holidays on Wednesday and Thursday before Eid. And the leaders of Bhomra C&F Agents Association want the holidays on Monday and Tuesday after Eid. The issue of closing the port on the occasion of Eid has not been finalised yet as the demands of traders of both the countries are different. The dates will be finalised tomorrow or the day after."
