Nusrat Murder: Deposition of victim’s mother, brother recorded
Judge Mamunur Rashid set September 19 for the next hearing.
The Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal today recorded the deposition of Feni's slain madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi's mother Shirin Akter and brother Rashedul Hasan in the brutal murder case.
Judge Mamunur Rashid set September 19 for the next hearing. The accused – suspended police officer Moazzem Hossain – was present in the court at that time.
Earlier, Supreme Court lawyer barrister Sayedul Haque Sumon had accused Moazzem of violating laws by spreading a video of Rafi's statement on social media.
What happened to Nusrat?
Nusrat, a student of Feni's Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa, was set on fire on April 6 this year for refusing to withdraw a case against her madrasa principal, Siraj Ud Doula, for sexually assaulting her in March. Siraj Ud Doula was later arrested and sent to jail.
The principal in jail was visited by his associates whom he instructed to intimidate Nusrat's family into withdrawing the case and, if necessary, he ordered them to kill Nusrat, according to Banaj Kumar Majumder, chief of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).
Acting on his instructions, four associates of the principal took Nusrat, only a few minutes before the Alim exams on April 6, to the roof of the administrative building of the madrasa, saying that one of her friends was being assaulted there.
