According to the case statements, the defendant allegedly killed a cat on March 19 and took a video of the gruesome offence that afterwards went viral on the social media
Police submitted a charge sheet against a juvenile female offender on Monday for killing a cat in Mughda, Dhaka.
Sub-inspector (SI) Nayan Debnath pressed the charge sheet against the offender, a student at Khilgaon Model School and College, under section 7 of the Cruelty to Animal Act, 1920. Earlier on March 22, 2019, a Dhaka court granted her bail in this connection.
According to the case statements, the defendant allegedly killed a cat on March 19 and took a video of the gruesome offence that afterwards went viral on the social media.
Zahid Hossain, an animal rights activist and general secretary of Care for Paws, filed a case against the accused with Mughda police station after watching the video.
The accused was arrested from the Gopibagh area of the city on March 22. An android mobile, a knife, and rexine paper used in the killing were seized from her house.
However, this is not the first case filed under the Cruelty to Animal Act, 1920, in Bangladesh. A total of three cases were filed in connection with animal cruelty until January 2018.
In July 2015, Bangladesh made the first arrest in an animal cruelty case.
