Bangladeshi cricketers to attend special classes from Kirsten
Kirsten will be joining an online meeting of Bangladeshi cricketers and coaches on Wednesday.
Gary Kirsten is no mug when it comes to cricket coaching. It was under the South African coach that India broke their 28-year long World Cup drought and lifted it in 2011. Under his coaching, India also managed to claim the No. 1 spot in the ICC Test ranking.
Courtesy of such a CV, Kirsten is one of the most sought after coaches in the whole world. But as things stand, Bangladeshi cricketers will get to learn from Kirsten in an online meeting.
The cricketers are set to have an online meeting with the coaches on Wednesday. Kirsten, responding to the request from his compatriot and Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo, will join the meeting. Kirsten will talk about his coaching experience and will impart his knowledge with Bangladeshi cricketers. The cricketers will also be able to ask for help from the former South African batsman.
Akram Khan, the director of Cricket Operations for Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), confirmed Kirsten's appearance in the online meeting to The Business Standard.
"The coaches and cricketers have regular online meetings during this pandemic. We have done around 7-8 meetings in the last few months. Kirsten will be there in Wednesday's meeting. He has accepted Domingo's request. The cricketers will be able to ask for suggestions from him," Akram said.
The idea of sharing the experiences of another coach is Domingo's. This will help the cricketers to learn and also allow Domingo to self-evaluate.
This idea had led to Domingo handing the whole responsibility of the side to fast-bowling coach Ottis Gibson. Gibson had worked as the South Africa head coach and Domingo wanted to utilise that experience.
