ACC to interrogate former health directorate DG Azad for two days
Azad will be interrogated about different corruption allegations in the health sector
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) will interrogate the former director general (DG) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Abul Kalam Azad over N95 mask, JKG Health Care and Regent Hospital scams.
ACC directors Mir Zainul Abedin Shebly and Sheikh Mohammad Fanafillah sent two separate notices to his Banani residence on August 6 summoning him to appear before the ACC interrogation team on August 12 and 13.
The former health directorate DG will be interrogated for two days on different corruption charges, the ACC sources said.
Azad and four others have been summoned to appear at the ACC headquarters on August 12.
The four people who will be quizzed on this day over the Regent scam include three former DGHS officials – Dr Aminul Hasan, former director of the hospital and clinic department, Dr Mohammad Yunus Ali, deputy director of the same department, and Shafiur Rahman, assistant director.
Also, Didarul Alam, a research officer at the health directorate, will be interrogated along with them.
The commission decided to interrogate Azad on August 12 as part of its ongoing inquiry into the overall irregularities in the health sector including N95 mask and JKG Health Care scams.
He will also be interrogated about Regent scam on August 13.
The ACC formed two separate inquiry teams as a series of allegations against the health officials were exposed.
The anti-graft body has already collected several documents related to the corruption charges.
Earlier, facing a torrent of criticism from all corners, Azad resigned on July 21.
The Detective Branch of police on August 5 pressed charges against JKG Health Care Chairperson Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury, her husband Ariful Islam Chowdhury, and six others in a case filed over the issuance of fake Covid-19 certificates.
The detectives had earlier found involvement of eight JKG Health Care officials, including Sabrina and her husband Arif, in the forgery.
Also, the law enforcers arrested Regent Hospital Chairman Shahed and his accomplices.
