Passengers asked to use railway tickets for personal use only
Transferring train ticket is a punishable offence
The Ministry of Railways has asked railway passengers to use their purchased tickets, return tickets or fixed term tickets for personal use only, reads a press release signed by Md Shariful Alam, senior information officer of the ministry.
The railway tickets are not transferable. The tickets are only meant for the person or passenger against whom the tickets are issued. And the tickets will be applicable to travel in specific places where it allows travel, it adds.
If anyone transfers or sells his own train ticket, return ticket or fixed term ticket to someone else, the seller will be punished with imprisonment for up to three months or monetary fine, or both.
Similarly, if the ticket buyers use or try to use another person's ticket, they will be punished for the extra fare equivalent to a single trip once, reads the press release.
So, the ministry urges everyone to buy tickets from the online/ mobile app, and also requests people to refrain from traveling by train on tickets purchased in the name of others.
