Agriculture Minister for producing more wheat, maize
The government is working with utmost importance to increase the food production so that people would not face severe food crisis
Agriculture Minister Dr M Abdur Razzaque today stressed the need for increasing the production of wheat and maize as the country has a huge demand of these two sorts of crops.
"The production of wheat and maize needs tobe enhanced more…these two types of crops are being widely consumed in fisheries and livestock sector", said the minister while inaugurating the 'Gam BhuttaThathyaBhandar' at the ministry's conference room here.
Claiming that the 'Gam BhuttaThathya Bhandar', a mobile app containing question-answer on latest wheat and maize varieties, its production and diseases related information, will help to increase production of the crops.
The android-based app, developed by Bangladesh Wheat and Maize Research Institute, now available in the Google play store, has created a scope for the growers, researchers, extension workers, university students and any other persons to easily access information about the crops.
Moderated by Agriculture Secretary M Nasiruzzaman, the programme was also attended by Bangladesh Wheat and Maize Research Institute's Director General M Israil Hossen, senior ministry officials, project directors and respective agency chiefs.
While discussing on the progress of the Annual Development Programme (ADP) implementation, the minister said although the Covid-19 pandemic has already jeopardized the lives of the people across the world, adding that so the government is working with utmost importance to increase the food production so that people would not face severe food crisis.
In the ADP of 2020-21, a total of Taka 2,361 crore has been earmarked for implementing 68 projects under the agriculture ministry.
