Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque has taken full responsibility for the treatment of Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida Khanam of Ghoraghat in Dinajpur, who is undergoing treatment for serious injuries after being attacked by miscreants early Thursday.
At the same time, he strongly condemned the vicious attack and demanded immediate arrest and punishment of the culprits behind it.
Due to this unfortunate incident, Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Party (VDP) has decided to provide a 10 -men armed security detail to ensure the safety of each UNO of the 58 upazilas in 8 districts of the Rangpur division.
The Additional Director General of Bangladesh Ansar gave the directives to the district commandants of Rangpur, Gaibandha, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Panchagarh and Thakurgaon via telephone call on Thursday, said a government notice issued by Ansar VDP.
On early hours of Thursday, Dinajpur's Ghoraghat UNO Wahida Khanam and her father were attacked by some miscreants inside their house.
They were initially admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
Later on Thursday afternoon, Wahida, who is still in critical condition, was airlifted to Dhaka by a Bangladesh Airforce helicopter when her health severely deteriorated.
