'Made By Maddie’ cancelled by Nickelodeon

Made by Maddie will not premiere later this month on Nickelodeon's Nick Jr as anticipated.

Nickelodeon has removed it from the schedule after assessing the situation following social media reaction to the show's similarity to Matthew A. Cherry's Oscar-winning short, Hair Love, Deadline reported.

Made by Maddie, a show about an 8-year-old Black girl with a passion for fashion, was set to premiere on Sunday, September 13.

Similarities noted between Made By Maddie and Hair Love — which was based on Cherry's 2019 children's book of the same name — include Maddie's pink headband, her mother's natural hair and her father's shoulder-length locs.
