The mayor directed DSCC officials to cooperate with the standing committee to make the event a success
The Dhaka South City Corporation is making arrangements for an international marathon on December 16, said Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.
"We are going to organise this event on December 16 – the Great Victory Day – to introduce Dhaka as a self-respecting city to the rest of the world. There can be no shortage of arrangements for the gala event," the mayor said in the first preparatory meeting held Thursday.
He directed DSCC officials at all levels to cooperate with the standing committee to make the event a success. "I believe all of you will come forward to carry out your duties with sincerity in organising a world-class competition," he hoped.
The mayor also directed all the departments to determine the route of the marathon and start work accordingly.
He called for including traditional and historical establishments on the route. He also instructed the people concerned to remove all illegal installations from the route to make sure the marathon is visually pleasing.
The meeting decided to complete all the necessary communications including informing the embassies and other concerned domestic and foreign sports organisations through letters and to form the sub-committees as soon as possible.
Exclusive broadcasting rights, sponsorship, and other necessary issues regarding the marathon were also discussed in the meeting.
The meeting took place at the Buriganga Hall of the Nagar Bhaban where members of the DSCC's sports and cultural standing committee and other departmental officials of the corporation were present.
