ACC seeks banking info of ruling party MP Mouazzam Hossain Ratan
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sought banking information and transaction details of Mouazzam Hossain Ratan, parliament member of the Sunamgonj-1 constituency, and his wife Mahmuda Hossain Lata.
Mohammad Neyamul Ahsan Gazi, assistant director of ACC, sent a letter to the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) on Monday in this regard.
ACC sources confirmed the matter to The Business Standard. The sources said, ACC sought detailed information of bank accounts of the ruling party lawmaker, his wife and family members.
Regarding the matter, Mouazzam Hossain Ratan told The Business Standard that he was cooperating with the ACC on their enquiry.
"As a citizen of the country and lawmaker, I am helping the ACC investigate the allegation of corruption. They are in their enquiry process and I will help them," said the MP.
Earlier in October last year, the ACC had set an enquiry against a few ruling party leaders, including Ratan, alleging amassing illegal wealth.
An ACC team, led by its director Sayeed Iqbal, interrogated Mouazzam Hossain Ratan at its Head office on 18 February this year on various allegations, including embezzlement of government money and casino business.
After facing the ACC team, Ratan claimed that he was being harassed politically with the allegations of corruption.
He also said that he had never been involved in corruption, rather he was always against corrupt practices.
After initiation of the enquiry, the ACC imposed a travel ban on Ratan so that he cannot leave the country.
