‘Gunfight’ kills alleged drug peddler in Mymensingh
He was wanted in 15 criminal cases
An alleged drug peddler was shot dead during a gunfight with Mymensingh Detective Branch (DB) of police in Tarakanda upazila early today.
The deceased is Abdul Karim, 45, of Nalchapra village in the upazila.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of the DB Shah Kamal Akand claimed that Karim was a drug peddler, against whom there were at least 15 cases with different police stations in the district.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of the DB police raided the area beside the rice mill of Mokamiakanda Pir Shaheb in the upazila, where some drug peddlers were selling drugs around 1:30 pm.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the miscreants opened fire at the police, ensuing a gunfight between them, said the OC.
After the 'criminals' fled the scene, police found Karim lying injured at the spot.
Later, he was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where he was declared dead.
However, before his death he told his name and the address of his home to police.
Assistant Sub-inspector Anwar Hossain also received minor injuries during the clash, said police.
A pipe gun, one round of bullet and 200 grams of heroin were recovered from the spot.
