‘Youths are the vehicles of economic development’
Dr Kholiquzzaman made the remarks at a national seminar on "Creativity and Youth on Socio-Economic Perspective of Bangladesh"
At an event on Saturday, renowned economist and development thinker, Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad said that youths are the vehicles of economic development during the pandemic situation.
"Though the government has prepared rules, strategies and an agendas for youth wellbeing, and has been implementing the same through GOs and NGOs during Covid-19, youths are facing a lot of socio-cultural issues to expand themselves in the right way, especially given the dilemma of executing government plans," he said.

Master's students of Entrepreneurship Economics, bachelor's students of Entrepreneurial Economics in Dhaka School of Economics, and students of University of Dhaka and Comilla Universities arranged the virtual seminar.
Prof Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali, session chair, said that in order to facilitate youth development and empowerment during this pandemic situation, measures must be executed in a timely manner as per government directives to overcome the roadblocks they face.
Youths are the leaders of the future and they should be kept within the framework of the development process through online business ventures, as well as by following creative pursuits while maintaining social distancing, e.g., singing, elocution, gardening and other hobbies, he also said.
In the papers presented in the seminar, students Farhana Hussain bintee, Humayara Tabassum and Mahmudul Islam said that with the dwindling of income-generating opportunities during the Covid-19 situation, youths have been incurring significant losses.
Youths aged 18-35 years take up around 50 million of the total population of the country. Youth in a country is the majority feasible not only in inhabitants' arrangement however too in community arrangement who are getting gradual involvement mainly by online, they added.
Rehana Parvin and Sara Tasneem, assistant professors of the Dhaka School of Economics, also addressed the national conference.
