Protesters demanded safe roads in Dhaka for women even at night
Hundreds of women demonstrated a flambeau-lit march in Dhaka roads on Tuesday midnight protesting against rapes.
The protesters started demonstration carrying torches at sharp 12am from the National Museum in Shahbagh. While marching towards Manik Mia Avenue, the protesters chanted anti-rape slogans and demanded the defined definition of "rape".
They also demanded safe roads in Dhaka for women even at night with the slogans "The nightlife of Dhaka is for women too", "Women are innocent," "Rapist is the main culprit."
After a one-hour walk, the protesters took to the street of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at around 1am and held the procession till 4am.
Earlier on October 13, President Abdul Hamid signed an ordinance increasing the maximum punishment for rape to death from life imprisonment as the country rages on against the recent rape cases in Bangladesh.
