19th edition of DIFF to pay homage to Satyajit Ray
The Oscar winning film-maker became a cultural icon for his contributions to the world of cinema.
This year Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) organisers will pay homage to Satyajit Ray, on the occasion of his birth centenary. During the 19th edition of the DIFF, films of Ray will be screened under the 'Tribute' segment.
Throughout his career, spanning for more than three decades, Ray created over 30 films, revolutionising Indian cinema, and modernising the art of adaptation.
Over the years, the Oscar winning film-maker became a cultural icon for his contributions to the world of cinema.

Dhaka International Film Festival director, Ahmed Muztaba Zamal told The Business Standard, "To be able to pay such homage to the maestro is something very special for us. We want to pay our respect and reverence on this invincible creator's birth anniversary. As a tribute to our maestro, we plan on screening some of his incredible works."
"So far we have 'Aparajito (The Unvanquished, 1956)' and 'Jalsaghar" (The Music Room, 1958,)' lined –up for our 'Tribute Section,' but a couple of other films directed by maestro will be added in our screening list."
There will also be a memorial lecture which will be held on January 20. Researcher, publisher and essayist Mofidul Hoque will present the keynote paper at the event. Mofidul Hoque is also one of the founder trustees of the Bangladesh Liberation War Museum
DIFF will take place both physically and virtually from January 16 to 24, 2021.
According to the organisers, necessary preparatory work in this regard is already underway. During the 19th DIFF, organizers expect to screen about 200 films, with participation from around 60 countries.
Organised by Rainbow Film Society, the Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) brings together film-makers, critics, and film lovers from all over the world, under one roof in Bangladesh.
