NSU waives 20% fees amid student protest
Students will avail a 10% waiver of tuition fees and another 10% will be applicable to computer lab, library, and other fees
North South University (NSU) has announced a 20% fee waiver for the upcoming Fall 2020 semester in the face of a demonstration by the university students.
Students will avail a 10% waiver of tuition fees and another 10% will be applicable to computer lab, library, and other fees, NSU Vice-Chancellor Atiqul Islam told The Business Standard on Tuesday.
Besides, the university authorities have decided to offer 100% tuition waiver to 20 students who were infected with coronavirus or lost their family members due to Covid-19.
The vice-chancellor also said that the university spends Tk16 crore annually on scholarship purposes, which has been increased to Tk17.5 crore this year considering the pandemic.
Earlier on Sunday, NSU students staged a protest to press home their two-point demand – 30% waiver of tuition fees and withdrawal of student activity fees for the new semester starting from October 22.
