8 BWDB engineers, 3 others sued on graft charges
The accused allegedly procured a pump for Kashimpur Pump House Rehabilitation under Manu River Irrigation Project spending Tk34.42 crore more than its actual price
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against 11 people including eight engineers of the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) over the embezzlement of around Tk34 crore from the Manu River Irrigation Project.
ACC Deputy Assistant Director Shahidur Rahman filed the case with the commission's integrated district office in Habiganj on Wednesday.
The accused are Sigma Engineers Limited Managing Director Syed Md Kamal, Chairman Engineer Syed Arshed Reza and General Manager Engineer Abdus Salam; BWDB's Superintendent Engineer SM Shahidul Islam, Executive Engineer Anisur Rahman, Superintendent Engineer Abu Taleb, Superintendent Engineer M Golam Sarwar, Executive Engineer Mohammad Abbas Ali, Superintendent Engineer Abdul Basit, Executive Engineer Ruhul Amin and Chief Engineer (mechanical equipment) Chowdhury Nazmul Alam.
The case alleges that the accused misappropriated Tk34.42 crore by buying a pump at a higher price than the actual price for Kashimpur Pump House Rehabilitation under Manu River Irrigation Project.
An investigation into the allegations was launched in 2019.
