Month-long virtual heritage handloom festival begins
This years’ fair is being held virtually through its Facebook
The month-long Heritage Handloom Festival 2020 began yesterday virtually with a showcase of various handloom products.
This years' fair is being held online through its Facebook page of the same name, due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Organisers said the fair will include, besides buying and selling, live demonstration of weaving, live runway show, product review, heritage photo contest, documentary and fashion tips.

Moreover, quiz contest, seminar, discussion and youth engagement will also be held.
Attending the opening ceremony of the festival as the chief guest on Wednesday, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said the new generation needs to be made interested in handloom products.
"So, the fashion designers will have to play a vital role to make the weaving products befitting and attractive in design," she added.
This sector is work-based and needs low investment, said the minister, adding, it, however, has a good contribution to the economy and women empowerment in the country.
The government is working to develop this sector further through providing weavers institutional training, said Dipu Moni.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam said loom products can be used in various ways. "Our consulates abroad should be adorned with loom products to promote it and make it worthy as our products have a huge demand abroad," he added.
The loom sector has huge opportunity to improve further by making the weavers acquainted with technology, said Ali Azam, secretary of Ministry of Industries.
