9 receive Independence Award-2020
Bangladesh honours individuals and institutions with the award every year since 1977
Eight distinguished personalities and an organisation have received this year's Independence Award (Swadhinata Padak), the highest civilian honour in the country.
The medals were handed over to the awardees at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital today.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, handed over the prestigious award to the awardees and their relatives at a function held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city.
Prime Minister took part in the event via video conference from her official residence Ganabhaban.
The awardees are- Textile and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi (Bir Pratik), late Commander (Retd.) Abdur Rauf, late Muhammad Anwar Pasha and Azizur Rahman in independence and Liberation War, Professor Dr Md Ubaydul Kabir Chowdhury and Professor Dr AKMA Muktadir in Medical Science, Kalipada Das and Ferdousi Majumdar in culture and Bharateswari Homes, a boarding school for girls located in Mirzapur under Tangail district, in education category.

The latest awards were given in 2019 to 13 individuals and an organisation.
