Anti-graft drive to continue in line with prime minister’s directive: Benazir

Rapid Action Battalion Director General Benazir Ahmed said on Thursday that the ongoing anti-corruption drive will continue in line with the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The prime minister has set the goal of ridding the country of corruption; now it is the responsibility of law enforcement and intelligence agencies to implement her directive, said Benazir.
He made the comments to reporters after attending an inter-school chess competition organised by the Chattagram District Sports Association in the port city.

Asked if the anti-corruption drive will be launched in Chattagram, the RAB director general said that legal action will be taken if credible allegations are made against anyone.
Benazir was the chief guest at a programme at the gymnasium of MA Aziz Stadium in his capacity as president of the Bangladesh Chess Federation.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mahbubur Rahman, Deputy Inspector General of police Khandaker Golam Faruq of Chattagram range, and acting Deputy Commissioner of Chattagram Yasmin Parveen Tirvizi, among others, were present at the programme.
Law enforcement agencies have started a crackdown on casinos and other related illegal businesses in line with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's directives.
During a raid on September 18, law enforcers arrested Dhaka South city unit Jubo League Organising Secretary Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan for running a casino in a sports club in the capital.
Another Jubo League leader, GK Shamim, was also arrested on September 20, for alleged involvement in criminal activities and tender manipulation.
Additionally, a number of leaders of the Jubo League, Krishak League and the Awami League have been detained following Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan's arrest.
