ACC raids Rajshahi City Corporation
City corp chief engineer claims that they are following all rules and regulations in their work
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has conducted a raid at the Rajshahi City Corporation building following allegations of irregularities in the ongoing renovation work.
A team from the ACC's integrated district office conducted the operation this morning till noon, said Assistant Director Amir Hossain.
Earlier on 5 August, a significant amount of damage was done to the city corporation building through looting and arson, amounting to losses worth Tk211.65 crore, said the ACC official.
"Recently, the renovation work started but allegations surfaced regarding non-compliance with rules and regulations, prompting the operation," he said.
The city corporation engineers also failed to present any documentation for seven ongoing activities, he said, adding that however, they did present documents for three works, for which bills had already been submitted.
"Even the documents that were presented raised concerns regarding their accuracy. There are also questions about how contractors are proceeding with work without any work orders."
The ACC official said after an investigation, a report will be submitted regarding the irregularities. A case will be filed if the central office grants permission.
Contacted, Acting Chief Engineer of the city corporation Ahmad Al Moin claimed that they were following all rules and regulations in their work.
