Joker premieres in Dhaka
Joker will be screened at Star Cineplex and Blockbuster cinemas
This year's most anticipated film 'Joker' released yesterday in the capital along with its US release. Directed by Todd Phillips, the film stars Joaquin Phoenix as Joker and will be screened at Star Cineplex and Blockbuster cinemas.
The movie had its premiere at star cineplex at Bashundhara city yesterday and received huge responses from the audience. A lot of people from our showbiz also showed up for the premiere.
"Very unexpected film experience. One cannot be ready for this. It is not a regular comic adaptation/superhero film. It is violent, gritty and disturbing. The complexity is overwhelming. A dark take on human psychology how twisted it can get under bleak urban conditions." Says Arafat, moderator of Film Punk group.
Arik Anam Khan, son of actor Tarik Anam Khan mentioned, "Joker is undoubtedly one of the most powerful and thought-provoking films of the year. Joaquin Phoenix's performance is by far the best acting you will see all year, and is a sure Oscar contender without a doubt. There is a lot to be learned and interpreted about the film as a whole. Joker is a dark, disturbing, violent and a mind-numbing psychological thriller. And for sure, it is not for the faint-hearted."
Previously, the movie was premiered at the 76th Venice International Film Festival in August where it won its highest award, the Golden lion.
"Almost all the fans know the storyline of Joker. But I particularly liked the acting of Joaquin Phoenix along with how the story is being told. If I get the chance, I would definitely watch the movie another time," Sara Fairuz Zaima from Prothom Alo said.
Model and actor Jannatul Ferdoush Peya also expressed her joy. "Amazing! After watching the movie, I realized we all have a little monster in the very depth of our minds, but we know how to control it, which is why we are the so-called civilized people and the joker is not!"
Apart from Phoenix, the film features Robert De Niro, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham in crucial roles.
