'Unleash' to organise local hackathon for revolutionising healthcare practices in the country

'Unleash', a global innovation lab for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), is going to launch a local hackathon in Bangladesh for revolutionising healthcare practices in the country.

The local hackathon focusing on sustainable development goals 3 and 4 is going to take place on November 20 and 21, said a press release issued by 'Unleash Hacks' on Monday.

During the digital hack, participants will through an immersive innovation process facilitated by Unleash alumni, and collaborate on solutions that will solve important challenges in their local communities.

During this time they will be learning from experts and members of their community to ensure the novel ideas are truly fit for the people most in need, the release said.

Applications for the competition from Bangladesh are open to applicants between the ages of 18-35. 

Sharmin Akter Shakila of the EMK Center, an execution partner for the program, said, "Unleash is a global hub for the SDG implementers. This Covid-19 pandemic has marked how much we require localized, cost efficient and innovative solutions in the health sector.The low health awareness is also causing incremental health risks."

"The Unleash Hack is a great platform for those youths who are working long in this sector and need the boost up. As an ecosystem partner, EMK always focuses on empowering with social impact," added Shakila.

The organising team for the hackathon consists of people who have previously been part of the Unleash innovation lab and know its methodology. They include Farhana Shahnaz, development practitioner and a communications officer at UNDP in a project focusing on Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE); Fariha Hossain, a development practitioner, Galiba Rabbani who works in in public health and economics and Sabira Mehrin, Product Manager at Praava Health.
