BNP leader Ishraq acquitted in ACC case

A Dhaka court has acquitted BNP leader Engineer Ishraq Hossain in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). 

Special Judge's Court-4 judge Sheikh Nazmul Alamon Monday pronounced the verdict.

According to case documents, the ACC issued a notice to Ishraq on 1 September 2008 to submit his and his dependents'wealth statements to the commission.

The commission, on 4 September of that year, sent a notice to Ishraq in this regard. 

In the notice, Ishraq was asked to submit the documents of his wealth within seven working days. But Ishraq did not comply with it.

Later, on 30 August 2010, the then assistant director of ACC Md Shamsul Alam filed a case against Ishraq with the Ramna police station.

On 6 December 2017, ACC deputy director Md Jahangir Hossain submited the charge sheet in this case to a Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate court.

Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge Imrul Kayes issued an arrest warrant to Ishraq on 5 May 2018 after taking the charge-sheet of this case to cognizance.  

Later, the case was transferred to Special Judge's Court-4.

On 15 January this year, the court framed charge against the BNP leader Ishraq.

In this case, the court recorded statements of six out of eight prosecution witnesses which concluded on 19 October of this year.

On 11 November, the court fixed the 23 November for the delivery of the judgment after the conclusion of arguments from both the ACC and the defence.
