6 Bangladeshi human traffickers added to Interpol’s red notice list

The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) has issued red notices to arrest six fugitive Bangladeshi human traffickers in the last two weeks of November.
They are: Minto Mia, Shapan, Shahadat Hossain, Nazrul Islam Molla, Ekbal Jafor, and Tanzirul.
Interpol's notice detailed that the accused are wanted for deceiving and luring people with promises of suitable jobs, confining and killing people as well as demanding ransom.

The move by the international police organisation came recently upon a request of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Jisanul Haque, a senior assistant superintendent of police (ASP), said on Monday.
Additional Inspector General of Police Mahbubur Rahman, who heads CID, will brief the media on the wanted six human traffickers at his office in the capital on Tuesday 12:30pm.
Interpol said the above-mentioned fugitive human traffickers, in collaboration with their counterparts in different countries, lured 38 male victims from Bangladesh, promising them good jobs and salaries and transported them to Libya.
Later, they confined the victims in the city of Mijdha, 180km south of Tripoli, on the pretext of abduction.
The traffickers then tortured the victims and sent the images and video footage of the torture to their nearest relatives in Bangladesh, claiming ransom from them.
The CID puts the request to Interpol through its Bangladesh office National Central Bureau at the Police Headquarters in Dhaka.

A red notice is a request to law enforcement agencies worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender or similar legal action.
In the first week of November, Minto Mia, a 41-year-old man, became the first Bangladeshi human trafficker to feature in the red notice corner of Interpol.
CID official Syeda Zannat Ara described Minto as one of the six traffickers.
She said the traffickers tricked people and took money from them with promises to give them lucrative jobs in Europe.
"But, they would be held hostage and tortured for ransom once the aspirant migrants left the country for their dream jobs," she added.

The CID official said putting the details on the Interpol website will restrict their movements in their host countries.
"And, once they are arrested in any Interpol member state, we will initiate the extradition process through a mutual agreement with the country," she added.
At present, more than 75 Bangladeshis are on Interpol's red list.
