ACC sent a letter to the SB Chief regarding the ban
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has imposed a ban on foreign travel for Sudhanshu Shekhar Bhadra, Director General (DG) of the Postal Department, and Rabeya Khatun, a postal inspector.
Deputy Director of the ACC, Md Salahuddin, sent a letter regarding the ban to the Chief of the Special Branch (SB) of the police on Tuesday.
According to the letter, the commission is investigating a complaint against the DG of the Postal Department, and others for embezzling hundreds of crores and acquiring illegal assets.
The letter also mentioned that the ACC had learnt from reliable sources that the two accused were trying to leave the country. So, in the interest of the investigation, their plans to travel overseas needed to be cancelled.
Earlier, on 1 September this year, the ACC interrogated Sudhanshu on allegations of anomalies and corruption in the procurement of the project, money laundering to India and illegal acquisition of wealth beyond their known sources of income.
There are also allegations of him accumulating wealth in the names of his relatives.
On 10 November this year, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications sent Sudhanshu Shekhar Bhadra on forced leave on account of allegations of embezzling more than Tk540 crore.
The decision was taken based on findings from the preliminary investigation, according to a press release of the Ministry.
