Christian housing society’s ruby jubilee held
The Metropolitan Christian Co-operative Housing Society Ltd started its journey on April 14, 1977
President of the Parliamentary Standing Committee of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki said the best housing societies bring honour to the country by gloriously representing the name of Bangladesh.
"As The Metropolitan Christian Co-operative Housing Society Ltd is working to bring smiles to every face, it must continue doing so," she added.
She said this on Tuesday while addressing the 40th Anniversary (Ruby Jubilee) of The Metropolitan Christian Co-operative Housing Society Ltd (MCCHS) as a guest of honour, held at the International Convention City, Bashundhara.
"Life is short. If we cannot do anything for the sake of humans and humanity, our life is worthless," said Chumki.
Talking about the chairman of the MCCHS, she said, "Mr Agustine Purification has won the country's Best Cooperative, Bangladesh-India Friendship Award and Nepal-Bangladesh International Award, recently."
Bishop Theotonias Gomes attended as a vicegerent of Curdinal Patric D' Rozario, CSC, parliament member of Vatican City, as the chief guest of the show.
The special guests were parliament members Advocate Gloria Jhorna Sarkar, registrar and director general of the department of co-operation, Md Aminul Islam, deputy director of the ministry of textiles and jute, Md Lutfar Rahman, and Housing society secretary Emanuel Bappi Mandal, among others.
In the beginning, the chairperson of the MCCHS said, "We have started our journey 40 years ago with 27 members and we have a debt to them. This housing society is the fruit of their love and sacrifice."
Bishop Theotonias Gomes said, "In a cooperative system, housing society is playing a great role. He requested the board to establish the homes for the low-income peoples of our country."
The Metropolitan Christian Co-operative Housing Society Ltd started its journey on April 14, 1977, when there were only 27 members. Its membership has now reached 21,000.
