Jatiya Party Chairman Ershad died at the Combined Military Hospital on 14 July last year
December 6 marks the 30th anniversary of the fall of Ershad's dictatorship.
On 6 December 1990, Hussein Muhammad Ershad, the then dictator resigned in the face of a mass movement.
On this day, he handed over power to the caretaker government which marked the end of his nine years of dictatorship.
The day is observed as 'the day of the fall of the dictatorship'.
HM Ershad seized power on 24 March 1982 by imposing martial law. HM Ershad was forced to relinquish power in the face of a continuous movement of leftist political parties, including the two alliances led by the Awami League and the BNP.

Ershad, infamous for steamrolling protests against him, ordered shooting during a strike on 10 November 1987. As a result, one Noor Hossain was shot dead. 'Let dictatorship be destroyed - democracy be liberated' was written on the chest and back of Noor Hossain.
A photo that was taken moments before the shooting made him the face of the anti-dictatorship movement. 10 November is observed as Noor Hossain Day.
