Habib Group: Workers stage demo demanding payment of dues
Workers of Chattogram based industrial company Habib Group staged a demonstration in front of its head office demanding settlement of their unpaid dues.
They took position on Jubilee Road of the city from 1pm to 3pm inconveniencing pedestrians.
On condition of anonymity, workers engaged in the protest said that they had not even received their payment for November even though December was about to end. The authorities failed to meet several payment dates after making commitments on multiple occasions. The latest lapsed payment date was Saturday, which finally prompted the demonstration.
Confirming the matter to The Business Standard, Mohammad Mohshin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station said workers took to the street demanding their arrears for November.
Police reached the spot when informed about the strike. However, after receiving assurances from the owners, the strike ended without any untoward incidents
Despite several attempts made by this reporter to reach Habib Group Director Md Aman, he could not be located.
