ACC approves charge sheet against the wife of Samrat’s aide

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved a charge sheet against Ayesha Akhter Soma, wife of Mohammad Zakir Hossain, aide of ousted Dhaka Metropolitan Juba League president Ismail Chowdhury Samrat.
ACC spokesperson Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya confirmed that the charge sheet was approved on Monday.
According to the investigation report of the case, Ayesha Akhter Soma, a homemaker, has separate income tax documents in her name despite having no income sources. With her husband's help, she has had access to undisclosed assets worth Tk5,01,15,164, which he has acquired illegally.
On 17 December 2019, ACC Assistant Director Mohammad Saiful Islam filed a case against Soma for acquisition of illegal assets worth Tk4,63,13,300.
The commission approved the charge sheet as per the recommendations laid out in Saiful Islam's investigation report, which will be presented to the court shortly, the ACC said.
On 29 October 2019, a month after the start of the anti-casino operation, the Rapid Action Battalion arrested Zakir from the Ilisha Ferry Ghat area of Bhola and seized a pistol, four bullets, four bottles of foreign liquor and Tk1,160 in cash.
On 14 November that year, the ACC filed a case against Zakir for acquisition of illegal assets worth Tk5,49,03,938 through illegal business and activities. The ACC is also investigating the case.
