Drive against animal traps at Satchari National Park

The forest department has launched combing operations against poaching activities in Satchari National Park located in Chunarughat under Habiganj district.
A team of 40 individuals led by the divisional Forest Officer, Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, kicked off the operation Tuesday morning in a bid to free the forest from animal traps that the poachers used to set up to kill wild animals.
Sources said traps were made with the motorcycle brake and clutch wires and being used to poach the animals.

After the news of poaching was published in several media outlets including The Business Standard, there were discussions on it.
"We will ransack the entire forest so that no traps are left. It is a big forest. So, the search may take us 3-4 days," said Rezaul Karim Chowdhury.
The operation will be carried out at Lauyachhara National Park after Satchari National Park, he added.
Nature and animal lovers across the country welcomed the move of the forest department.
In his reaction, Dhaka University Zoology Department Lecturer Muntasir Akash said it is an amazing initiative on the part of the forest department and wished success of the drive.
Mentionable that the faculty was the first to discover the Rema-Kalenga forest traps.
These traps work like the current nets which can trap any animal and kill it, and that is why, it has become a serious threat to wildlife, said the zoologist.
