DSCC removed 106 tonnes of waste from Panthapath culvert on 5th day
Mechanical waste removal has started in Shyampur canal, containing a layer of waste 4-5-feet thick
On the fifth day of the ongoing waste removal activities, the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) removed 106 tonnes of waste from the drainage pits of Panthakunj, Panthapath and Russell Square using excavators, dozers, and gravers.
At the same time, manual waste extraction activities are underway at Gopibagh outlet of Segunbagicha box culvert, reads a press release from the DSCC.
Meanwhile, waste removal activities with excavators started on Thursday morning in the Trimohoni section of Jirani canal and continued till evening. Manual waste extraction from Manda and Kalu Nagar canals in the capital is also currently underway.

Regarding the ongoing waste removal activities, Md Badrul Amin, Chief Waste Management Officer, DSCC, said, "We have started mechanical waste removal activities, aiming to remove waste from the Jirani canal and clean the channels.
Demarcation activities are also underway. Evacuation activities have already been conducted within the boundaries of the canal on a limited scale. We will remove all permanent and temporary installations in the canal within our stipulated time frame."
Badrul Amin added that they are also conducting waste collection activities in Manda and Shyampur canals. We have been working to connect these canals and box culverts with Manda canal by removing waste from Jirani, Shyampur, and Basabo Kadamtala canals, and Segunbagicha box culvert.
He believes that these initiatives will reduce waterlogging to more tolerable levels.
Waste removal activities at Segunbagicha and Panthapath box culverts, Shyampur, Manda, and Jirani canals will continue, he added.
