3,440 women and children raped, tortured amid pandemic
Some 101 fell victims to human trafficking, of whom four were sold in brothels
A total of 3,440 women and female children fell victims to rape and torture amid coronavirus pandemic in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Mahila Parishad Sunday revealed the matter in a report, prepared based on articles published in 13 daily newspapers.
Of the total victims, 1,346 were raped, 236 gang-raped, 33 murdered after rape and three committed suicides after being raped. Besides 200 faced rape attempts in 2020.
The survey also found that 43 women and children endured molestation and 74 suffered sexual harassment.
Meanwhile, 25 came under acid attack, of which 13 succumbed to their burn injuries.
In addition, 29 were set on fire, resulting in deaths of 13 victims.
Some 59 women and children confronted stalking and 125 were abducted during the time.

Besides, 468 women were murdered for various reasons while 35 were attempted to be murdered.
117 suffered torture and 52 were killed because of dowry. 159 suffered physical torture.
Some 252 women and children died mysteriously.
The survey also found 117 cases of early marriages while 33 faced attempts of early marriage.
Meanwhile, 43 fell victim to cybercrime during the period.
