Decision on new bus route from Ghatarchar-Kanchpur finalised: Taposh
Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has said that decision has been finalised to extend the Motijheel bus route from Ghatarchar to Kanchpur.
Final decision has been made after a discussion with bus owners, said the mayor in a briefing after a meeting of the Bus Route Rationalisation Committee at Nagar Bhaban on Tuesday afternoon.
He said the pilot project will start operating buses on this route through a joint venture. Then a company will be formed and all the buses on this road will run under it.
Besides, the location of four terminals outside the city has been finalised for buses coming from outside Dhaka, Mayor Taposh said.
The locations are- Birulia, Hemayetpur, Baghai of Keraniganj and Kanchpur.
Once implemented the route, Saidabad and Gabtali terminals will be used as city-bus stands, said the mayor expressing his hope that this will reduce traffic congestion.
He further said that no BRTC bus will be allowed to park on the road at night from 28 February to bring order on the road. They have to be kept at the bus depot. They have assured cooperation in this regard.
At the meeting Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor (DNCC) Atiqul Islam opined that the two city corporations are working on the basis of priority to free Dhaka from water congestion as well as traffic congestion.
The 16th meeting of the committee will be held on February 23 to review the real progress of the overall work including policy formulation, said the DSCC Mayor Taposh.
Earlier, the DSCC started work on reducing the number of bus routes in Dhaka from 291 to 42. Initiatives were taken to operate the vehicle in Dhaka under a company.
