BGMEA goes for preparing factory owners’ biometric database
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has taken an initiative to bring all of its members under a digital biometric database to ensure a speedy and hassle-free service to the factory owners, shareholders and proprietors.
The apex body of the apparel exporters has already started the data collection drive from Wednesday and urged the members to deposit their biometric data at the booths they find convenient for them.
Three booths and six mobile teams are collecting data, including fingerprints, signatures, and photographs, from the BGMEA members in the capital, while there is another booth at the regional office in Chattogram.
The data-collection process will continue till 15 March.
The BGMEA will store the data in its own database and will use those in the process of membership renewal, transfer of ownership, visa services, the online Utilisation Declaration (e-UD), and cash incentive.
It will also use the data while recommending any of its members for availing stimulus packages announced by the government.
Miran Ali, a director of the BGMEA, told The Business Standard that the initiative will expedite the BGMEA services to the members.
The step is followed by a similar one where a biometric database was created for readymade garment works.
