DSCC removes 34,130 tonnes of waste from canals in 15 days

After taking charge of Dhaka's canals, the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has removed 34,130 tonnes of waste and soil from the canals in its territory.
Of this amount, the DSCC has removed 32,500 tonnes of waste alone from 1.5 kilometers of the Jirani canal in the last 15 working days, said a press statement issued by the DSCC on Saturday.

As part of its ongoing waste removal drive, the DSCC removed 1,111 tonnes of waste from 29 drainage pits of the Panthapath Box Culvert and 520 tonnes of waste from 40 pits of the Shegunbagicha Box Culvert in the city.
According to the media release, waste removal process from the capital's Manda and Shyampur canals, and TT Para Wasa Pump House, is underway.
Air Commodore Md Badrul Amin, chief waste management officer of DSCC, said, "We have targeted the cleaning of 3 canals and two box culverts in the DSCC area to ensure water-flow by this March."
"We have also cut down the weekly holidays of our employees from two days to one day, so that we can complete our work within the stipulated time-frame," he added.
