Dhaka South to construct a playground in Lakshmibazar

Dhaka South City Corporation is set to construct a playground in the place that it recovered recently by evicting an illegal market in the capital's Lakshmibazar. 

Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on Sunday gave the city corporation officials his consent to go ahead.

ABM Aman Ullah Nuri, chief executive officer of the Dhaka South, said, "The number of playgrounds in the city is inadequate, adversely impacting the psychological growth of children. We need playgrounds to help our children grow up properly."

"We will start the construction of the playground soon," he added.

According to the city corporation, a man named Billu had taken the lease of 10.08 acres of land in Lakshmibazar in 1995 on the pretext of turning it into a car park. 

The lease money was supposed to be paid off in two installments, but Billu did not pay the second installment. As a result, the then city corporation cancelled the contract in the same year.

Later, Billu set up an illegal market at the place leased for the car park. He did not pay any money to the corporation for this purpose.

Finally, a mobile court headed by Executive Magistrate AH Irfan Uddin Ahmed evicted the illegal market at Suvash Bose Avenue of Lakshmibazar last Thursday.
