Myanmar was never cordial to take back Rohingyas: Prof Delwar
Myanmar was never cordial to take back Rohingyas from Bangladesh, said Professor Delwar Hossain, former chairman of International Relations Department of Dhaka University.
"Although Bangladesh prepared a list of 8.5 lakh Rohingyas and sent it to Myanmar, they identified only 41,000 Rohingyas from the list and agreed to take back 27,000 of them. But we didn't see any progress in Rohingyas repatriation," he told The Business Standard in his reaction after Myanmar army seized power and arrested Aung San Suu Kyi.
"During that time Bangladesh could urge the international community to create pressure on Myanmar for repatriation," he continued.
"Now an opportunity has been created following Myanmar's political crisis. If we can create pressure on Myanmar through the international community, they may be cordial under current circumstances to take back the Rohingyas," he concluded.
