Police hospitals’ 110 employees demand transfer to revenue sector
The employees are frustrated as they have heard that the government will recruit new staff, replacing them
Some 110 officers and staff recruited for the Bangladesh Police Hospitals' Modernisation and Development Project have demanded to be transferred to the revenue sector.
They placed the demand at a press conference at the National Press Club on Monday.
In a written statement, Neel Ratan, account assistant at Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital, said, "We have been working since we were hired in 1997 for the modernisation and development project of Bangladesh Police Hospitals. Since then we have been receiving a small salary from the allocation for this project."

"In 2011, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved the transfer of 314 officers and employees working on the project to the revenue sector. The remaining 123 were told they would be transferred in phases. But so far we have not been shifted to the revenue sector," he added.
They gained a lot of skills as they worked in the same positions for 18 years, the statement read.
However, they exceeded the age limit to join a new job.
Now they are frustrated as they have heard that the government will recruit new staff, replacing them.
Meanwhile, 13 employees out of the 123 left their jobs because they were not transferred.
"If new employees are recruited replacing us, these 110 families will become destitute and our children will be deprived of an education," said the statement.
"We humbly request the prime minister to transfer these 110 people to the revenue sector at least on humanitarian grounds," the employees urged.
Md Abdul Khaleq Hawlader, a security guard at the Central Police Hospital; Shahana Akhter, a nursing attendant at the Sylhet Divisional Police Hospital; Md Nazrul Islam, a gardener of the Barisal Divisional Police Hospital; Md Akhter Hossain, chef of the Chittagong Police Hospital; Md Abdul Halim Mia, a security guard at the Rajshahi Divisional Police Hospital; Md Anwar Hossain, chef of the Sarada Police Academy Hospital; and Md Abul Kashem, a security guard at the Sylhet Divisional Police Hospital, were also present at the programme.
