We are proud but we have to fight hard again: Brathwaite
To the skipper, the next five days are more important than what has happened before.
Windies had a fairytale start to the Test series. They beat Bangladesh by 3 wickets miraculously which hardly anyone had expected. They go again tomorrow for the second Test. Their skipper Kraigg Brathwaite, before the match has said the team is proud of what they have done in the first Test but they know they have to fight again for a similar result in the second match as well.
Brathwaite said during the press brief that his team will need to start fresh for the past result will not matter anymore in the second match. "We got a nice win but we have to start over fresh. We have to buckle down, and can't be complacent. We have to fight hard again."
To the skipper, the next five days are more important than what has happened before. "We as a team don't want to get too far ahead. We have five days of Test cricket to play. We are very happy to have won the first Test. We want to buckle down. Victory has meant a lot for us. The guys are very proud of winning the first Test but we look forward to the next five days," Brathwaite said during the press brief.
"The biggest thing is not to get carried away. We are happy with the win but we know we start from zero," he added.
Brathwaite was in praise for Mehidy Hasan Miraz for his outstanding performance with both bat and ball in the first match. He assumes he will trouble their batsmen in the second game as well, but also mentioned the team is ready with their plan to execute on the field.
Windies look to better their first innings performance in the upcoming match as per Brathwaite. "We can improve on our first innings score to help us set the game up better. We did well in the second innings. We have to be a little sharper in the field in periods when there's probably been a partnership. We can be a little tighter," Brathwaite said.
Much has been talked about Windies' weakened squad in both Tests and ODIs. But Brathwaite believes this is not a depleted side and they can achieve something even bigger together. Skipper believes there is no added pressure on the team and he is enjoying captaining this side.
"I want to say this is not a depleted squad. I firmly believe everyone here is capable of doing the job at the international level."
