Nahid Rana's maiden Test fifer gives Tigers 18-run 1st innings lead against Windies
The visitors, trailing 1-0 in the series, now lead by 18 runs, having posted 164 in their first innings.
Bangladesh pacer Nahid Rana claimed his maiden Test five-wicket haul to help dismiss the West Indies for 146 in their first innings on the third day of the second and final Test at Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica, on Monday.
The visitors, trailing 1-0 in the series, now lead by 18 runs, having posted 164 in their first innings.
After resuming post-Lunch, Bangladesh wasted no time in removing the last two West Indies batters. Captain Mehedi Hasan Miraz trapped Shamar Joseph lbw, and Rana, playing his fifth Test, dismissed Kemar Roach to achieve career-best figures of 5-61, surpassing his previous best of 4-44 against Pakistan in Rawalpindi earlier this year.
Rana finished with figures of 5-61 from 18 overs, while fellow pacer Hasan Mahmud took two wickets.
Bangladesh's pacers dominated on the third day, reducing the West Indies to 135 for eight at Lunch, still trailing by 29 runs. Rana made the initial breakthroughs, removing West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite (39) and Kavem Hodge (3) in consecutive overs, after the hosts resumed at 70 for one.
Taskin Ahmed joined the attack, sending Alick Athanaze (2) back to the pavilion with a fine delivery from around the wicket. Taijul Islam then got in on the act, dismissing Justin Greaves (2) with an arm ball, while Hasan Mahmud trapped Joshua de Silva (5) lbw, leaving the Windies' tail exposed.
With the West Indies' innings falling apart, Keacy Carty (40), the last recognized batter, was dismissed down the leg side off a delivery from Rana, who then completed his five-wicket haul by removing Alzarri Joseph (7).
