Father’s deposition recorded in Avijit murder case
Six people were indicted for the Avijit murder
Professor Dr Ajoy Kumar Roy, father of murdered blogger and writer Avijit Roy, gave a deposition in a case filed over the killing of his son in 2015.
Judge Jesmin Ara Begum of the Anti-Terrorism Tribunal court in Dhaka recorded his deposition along with the deposition of another witness in the case on Monday.
"On February 26 in 2015, some people attacked my elder son Avijit Roy with lethal weapons at around 8pm in front of the Raju Memorial Sculpture near the TSC in Dhaka University. His wife Rafida Ahmed Bonya tried to save him but she was also attacked and got injured. On hearing about this, we rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where Avijit died," said Ajoy Kumar Roy in his statement.
Avijit's father filed the murder case against unidentified assailants with Shahbagh police station.
On August 1, 2019, six people were indicted for the Avijit murder. They are: Major Syed Ziaul Haq Zia, Akram Hossain alias Hasib alias Adnan alias Abdullah, Abu Siddique Sohel, Mozammel Hussain alias Saimon, Arafat Rahman, and Shafiur Rahman Farabi.
Of them, Zia and Farabi are on the run.
The court has set November 18, 2019 for the next hearing in the case.
