Leather industry incentives to be extended for 5 years: PM
The prime minister said her government is a business-friendly one and would provide necessary facilities to the business community
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said financial incentives for the leather industry will be continued for the next five years to achieve the desired export income from leather goods and footwear products.
She made the comment while inaugurating Bangladesh Leatherfootwear and Leathergoods International Sourcing Show 2019 at Bangabandhu International Conference Center.
The prime minister said her government is a business-friendly one and would provide necessary facilities to the business community.
Hasina said the government would allocate 150 acres of land for setting up factories in Savar to produce quality leather goods and footwear products which will meet the Leather Working Group certificate.
The UK-based Leather Working Group is the online resource for all stakeholders in the leather industry, including brands, manufacturers, suppliers, NGOs and end users.
The objective of this multi-stakeholder group is to develop and maintain a protocol that assesses the environmental compliance and performance capabilities of leather manufacturers and promotes sustainable and appropriate environmental business practices within the leather industry.
"The government will ensure all kinds of facilities for the country's export sector," said Hasina.
