A Jashore court has delivered a unique verdict, ordering a female convict in a drug case to serve her jail term in her home.
Attached to this are eight conditions, one of which is reading 10 books while serving the two-year sentence.
Judge Shimul Kumar Biswas of the Jashore Sessons Judges Court-2 passed the verdict on Wednesday.
According to the verdict, the convict, Parveen Begum will serve her time at her home under the strict supervision of a probation officer deployed by the Department of Social Services.
If the conditions are violated, Parveen will be sentenced to 2-year rigorous imprisonment and an additional one-month imprisonment for non-payment of a fine of Tk 1,000.
According to the case statement, the police arrested Parveen in June 2006 and recovered 20 bags of heroin from her.
After getting bail from the court, Parveen did not miss to obey a single summon order over the last 15 years. The charges against her were proved.
