Bangladesh Art Week completes 2nd virtual auction
The auction featured paintings, sculptures, new media/mix media work, installation, textile sculpture, photography and many more multi-dimensional works
Bangladesh Art Week (BAW) has completed their second virtual live auction titled "Ora Egaro Jon", where artworks created by female artists were exhibited, marking the International Women's Day.
The auction, held on 5 March, was conducted by eminent banker Anis A Khan, reads a press release.
The auction featured paintings, sculptures, new media/mix media work, installation, textile sculpture, photography and many more multi-dimensional works.
A huge number of artworks by renowned artists like Bipasha Hayat, Maksuda Iqbal Nipa, Naima Haque, Najmun Nahar Keya, Soma Surovi Jannat, Tahia Farhin Haque, Tayeba Begum Lipi,Vinita Karim, Yasmin Jahan Nupur, Ashfika Rahman and Tahia Farhin Haque, Ferdousi Priyabhashini,Tayeba Begum Lipi were showcased at the auction.
Founder of Bangladesh Art Week Niharika Momtaz said, "We recognise that our stories collectively and individually make a difference. Here each piece of artwork tells you a story.
Anis A Khan, the auctioneer, mentioned that "Conducting this live virtual auction of Bangladesh art was most challenging and rewarding. An auctioneer feels his work is well-done, if most of the works get sold, like this time.
Special guest Rubana Huq, president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), expressed that there is still a lot of inequalities in promoting artists and such brave combination of artists presented in this auction can correct the market and we can hope for a better future for the art and culture in this country.
BAW provides a platform for emerging and established artists to showcase their artworks. Bangladesh art week offered unrivaled connection to the art world by uplifting the local contemporary art industry through interaction, guidance and exposure.
15 out of the twenty artworks offered for auction and all the sculptures were sold. The unsold artworks from the live auction were reserved for the next auction, which will start on 8th March.
